Message from Steve |
I was
sat outside a café the other day watching the world go by while drinking my
coffee, when I suddenly became aware of how complacent most people are when it
comes to the future. It started
when I heard someone near me on a ’phone arranging to meet someone in two days
time. Then I got to thinking
that if you really look there is evidence all around us, that we do not expect
our world or our lives to change very much in the near future.
For example public transport time tables assume that buses, trains,
planes etc. will be running as normal day after day. People’s work rotas assume that we will be turning up
for work tomorrow, next week, next year. We
plan holidays in advance expecting to be able to go on them and the list is
endless, all around us there is evidence of our expectation that life will go on
as it always has, and whilst there is nothing wrong with this it did get me
wondering, how many of us are really ready for Jesus to come back again?
I wonder how many of us ever give regular thought to the fact that he
will come back one day, and to the consequences, as far as we are concerned, if
we are not ready when he does.
We
should all remember that is beholden on us to make sure that we are prepared for
this event and whilst it is natural and right to plan for the future, part of
the future that we should all be thinking of, and planning for, regularly is the
great event of our Lord Jesus coming back again for us.
It is the one certain thing in a relatively uncertain world, it will
happen, it’s just a question of when. It
is precisely because we do not know when it will happen that we need to give
preparation for it daily thought. And
don’t forget, every generation that is born stands more chance of being around
at the time of the second coming than the generation preceding it.
Some of the world’s leading Christians and theologians are even saying
that there could be people alive now who will see this wonderful event, and if
we really are that close then it is more important
than ever for each one of us to make sure that we are ready.
It is also important for us to remember that if we are that close to our
Lord’s return then we are running out of time to help others prepare by
telling them about Jesus and his wonderful offer, and by showing them Jesus in
everyday life.
The
second coming of Jesus is too important an event to be left to chance and there
is still an enormous amount to be done in this world to ensure that as many
people as possible are ready and on the right side when it happens.
Remember Jesus has no hands in this world but yours, and no voice in this
world but yours, so don’t assume that someone else will do it, do it yourself.
Make sure that you are ready, and make sure that you help as many other
people as possible to be ready as well.
God
Bless.
Steve.
