ALONE WITH THE  ALONE

Lonely heart, take courage, I know the path you tread,

Remember, I am with you, your ever-living head;

I trod the path before you, right onward to the grave,

You will never know My anguish, as I died your soul to save.

Remember dark Gethsemane, beneath the silent trees -

My dearest friends were lost in sleep, while I was on My knees;

My lonely heart would fain have had them watch one hour with Me,

But human friends were unprepared to share My agony.

Could man betray the Lord of Love? He did, and with a kiss,

They all forsook Him then, and fled, the final heartbreak this;

Denied three times and spat upon, scourged, mocked, nailed to a tree;

Oh hear the cry, “My God, My God, have You forsaken Me?”

I know it is a lonely path, dear child how well I know -

The human friendships and the love you feel you must forgo -

In order that no rival claim may creep into your heart,

For souls united with their Lord, no earthly ties must part.

But while you tread this lonely way in answer to My call,

Your every need I will supply, I am your All in All;

Forsaken you will never be, I am your faithful Friend

The heartbreak and the tears of earth will one day surely end.
